Our Mission
A Sister’s Promise will be dedicated to providing support, resources, and education regarding Domestic Violence. Our mission is to help those experiencing unhealthy or dangerous relationships AND provide support to friends and family members of loved ones in abusive relationships. Whether you are the one experiencing the abuse yourself or you have a loved one experiencing it, we know it can feel very lonely and defeating.
We provide a platform that increases awareness to domestic violence, a prevalent issue that is often silenced in our society. We provide a safe space to start having the hard conversations and dialogue the indisputable hard facts.
• A woman is assaulted or beaten every nine seconds.
• 1 in 3 women—and 1 in 4 men—have been in abusive relationships, and 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have faced severe physical violence.
Someone close to you has been in an abusive relationship. That is a statistical fact. A fact that most of us struggle to face.
Domestic Violence is often seen in our society as “personal business.” While people do not condone it, many do not know how to help. We call on our allies, those that have not experienced domestic violence, to use this platform to gain information and understanding to assist with identifying if a loved one is struggling with an unhealthy relationship. Hearing other people’s stories, learning about red flags, spotting warning signs, and increasing awareness to help break this cycle that exist in our society.
The imbalance of power and control is not limited to any one group of people. It occurs within in communities across all ages, social classes, races, cultures, political affiliations, and education levels. You may not even know that someone in your life has been impacted by domestic violence. Abusers can be some of the friendliest and most outwardly supportive people we know, victims can be some of the strongest people we don’t even know. This platform aims to share information addressing aspects of DV such as this.
Our Vision is to reach and support victims and survivors before it is too late. We seek to give a voice to those who have lost a loved one to domestic violence. We seek to provide a safe community for connection about our trauma.
